Prisoners for Palestine Hunger Strikers Support Statement

We are proud to announce PAA’s endorsement of @prisonersforpalestine ‘s Open Letter outlining the Hunger Strikers 5 key demands. Suffering extended mistreatment, isolation, and abuse, these prisoners have finally drawn a line in the sand with their open-ended hunger strike, and have made a call to the world community to bring pressure on the genocidal British state to end this charade of indefinite punitive imprisonment once and for all, demanding:

1) An end to all censorship of prison communications
2) Immediate bail for prisoners
3) A fair trial
4) Deproscription & an end to prevent
5) SHUTTING ELBIT SYSTEMS DOWN!

We encourage everyone who is able to attend the upcoming solidarity demos on November 14th and 15th (see @prisonersforpalestine for more details). If you cannot make it, then spread the word, and amplify the hunger strikers’ message in conjunction with your advocacy for Palestine wherever you go. Print out flyers and infosheets to table at your shows. WRITE TO PRISONERS! This is a simple but often-forgotten way of opposing their isolation from the rest of the community. And get your collective, trade union branch, or community organisation to sign on to the statement and make visible the consensus the free people of the world already came to long ago: that we want this charade to be over, for our comrades to be free, and for the génocidaires to be ejected from power so that Palestine can complete its the long struggle towards full liberation.

We are at an inflection point, and our solidarity at this moment is being tested. Is it holistic, expansive, and far-reaching towards the liberation Palestinians demand? Or is it narrow, picky, and so specific that it could never be realised within our lifetimes? Now is the time to choose the former, and move everyone you can from the latter over to the freedom side.

We, Punks Against Apartheid, fully endorse Prisoners for Palestine's open letter and the demands of the hunger striking prisoners in the uk. For years the British state has tried to distract from its complicity in the Zionist genocide with the targeted harassment of Palestinians and solidarity activists and the proscription of their organisations. But it won't work. actionists are not the ones we should be afraid of--it is the unrepentant génocidaries in Westminster, for they have shown their hand: They have no plan other than perpetual war, genocide, and escalation of the surveillance state--and they think we are too stupid to see it.
They paved the way with the ‘prevent’ strategy in 2006, which cast suspicion on anyone who opposed ‘fundamental british values’, with a particular focus on support for palestine. Since 2015, ‘Prevent’ legally deputises doctors, teachers, nurses, and others to become petit-bourgeois mind-cops of the dystopian 'hostile environment' by snitching on members of the public for holding supposedly deviant political views, leading to social services intervention and even imprisonment.
simply put, Prevent helped to enshrine a ruling class consensus that opposing genocide is tantamount to psychological abnormality and violence against the state, pretending to solve the human cost of their neo-colonial adventurism with a carceral fantasy. but since the root cause oF violence IS political (and not ‘psychological’), prevent was always destined to fail. still, failed policies have a way of sticking around, and the failure to stop prevent is (in part) why we are here today.
but we can learn one thing from this trajectory. The road to dystopia was built day by day, not overnight. nothing is inevitable--if we act fast enough. We can put a wedge in the gears of genocide by supporting the hunger strikers. by amplifying their voices, sharing their stories, and organising actions in solidarity--always making sure to centre palestine as we do so--we are building a movement in which we organise with our comrades behind bars rather than ‘for’ them.
This extends of course to our imprisoned comrades in palestine, whose prisoner advocacy organisations have been criminalised and harassed by states across the world. with over 11,000 palestinians kidnapped in the occupation’s prisons (including children), subject to state-sanctioned torture, sexual assault, and summary execution at any time, we must redouble our efforts to heed their calls for solidarity and build their demands into our everyday work. So we say we say from our members all across the world...
FREE THEM ALL!
