#SMASHTHEMATCH Campaign Wins Cancellation of Aichi-Israel Matching Program in Japan

#SMASHTHEMATCH campaign organizers are proud to announce the official END to the Aichi-Israel Matching Program, as declared by the Aichi Prefectural government and reported by Chunichi Shinbun and Asahi Shinbun on November 18, 2025.

This a massive WIN for the grassroots BDS movement in Japan. Apartheid Isrl continues to violate the so-called “ceasefire” with drone strikes and bombings, selling their advanced genocidal weaponry around the globe. As the Japanese government continues to normalize relations with Isrl, especially in cybersecurity and technology, we recognize the importance of this victory not only as a local issue, but one that can inspire other communities worldwide fighting similar programs. We send our utmost thanks and gratitude to every single person who contributed to making this divestment victory possible, from those who signed petitions, wrote e-mails, left comments, and made phone calls to let Aichi know the whole world is watching and DEMANDS JUSTICE for Palestine!

Local Palestine Solidarity groups working with international allies ran a persistent and multi-facted campaign both on- and offline to bring an end to one of Japan’s direct governmental ties to the Zionist Entity. Now, #SMASHTHEMATCH demand that the Aichi Government follow through with their promise to end this program and commit to no further collaboration with the Zionist apartheid state!This includes our request for a written commitment by the Aichi government to:

    1) Provide exact details of how and when the Aichi-Israel Matching Program will be ended

    2) Review all business relationships with companies from, or which do business with, the Zionist Entity, both within and beyond the Matching Program

    3) End all said partnerships as a matter of urgency

    4) Guarantee that Aichi will not re-enter into such business partnerships by other means, either formally or informally

#SMASHTHEMATCH expects a prompt response to these demands. Should Aichi fail to fulfill them, further protest action will be taken.

The Aichi-Israel Matching Program has used taxpayer money to pair Isrli tech startups with Japanese companies since 2022. These partnerships have brought Isrl’s genocidal military technology – drones, AI, cybersecurity, etc. – to the heart of Japan’s manufacturing region in Aichi Prefecture. Through the course of the campaign, the Aichi government denied the program’s ties to military tech development, which activists exposed as a lie. With persistent research by the Nagoya Mothers for Palestinian Children and @PalestineInJapanese, organisers proved how Isrl’s “startup nation” culture is directly linked to the military industry complex in Japan, which is even named in the renowned Albanese Report. Any denial of these connections obfuscates the origins and purpose of the technology itself: the surveillance, control, genocide & ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

Members of Nagoya Mothers for Palestinian Children, Hiroshima Palestine Vigil Community, BDS Japan Bulletin and Punks Against Apartheid worked together to mobilize grassroots communities across Japan and the world, from London, Indonesia, Detroit, Hawaiʻi, Spain, and beyond to participate in weekly online actions. Participants left comments on Aichi’s social media accounts; made protest phone calls to the companies involved; and wrote directly to the government to oppose the Matching Program in the form of petitions. A targeted campaign around the Aichi Triennale, an international art exhibition featuring Palestinian artists, created more pressure, making international art news headlines and forcing a Triennale Organizing Committee member and Executive Director of one of the Matching Program companies to step down from the committee in September 2025.

On the ground in Nagoya, weekly protests were held at Aichi government offices and at opening events for the Asian Games, set to take place in Aichi in 2026. In Hiroshima, activists distributed flyers and spoke to the public from the ruins of the Atomic Bomb Dome, connecting Isrl’s genocidal weapons technology to the history of nuclear weapons. In London, punks chanted #SMASHTHEMATCH at local fundraisers for Palestine and sent e-mails demanding an end to Japan’s collusion with Isrl, while bands and groups from around the world signed onto the petition to cancel the program alongside international groups like Defense for Children International Palestine, World Beyond War, Jewish Voice for Peace, and the Center for Contemporary Islamic Studies in Japan.

“We prioritized consistency, cross-cultural collaboration, a multi-lingual information campaign, and pure ‘people power’ to put as much pressure as possible on the local Aichi government to cancel this program,” says one organizer from the Punks Against Apartheid network. “While we often hear people saying that they don’t feel their voice matters, we have demonstrated the opposite. While the real organising is always on the ground, the thousands of individuals who participated in small ways online built the groundswell to keep this campaign alive and in the ‘zeitgeist.’ That meant complicit companies in Aichi, as much as the government itself, could not manage their public PR without being flooded with comments from concerned citizens and allies about their genocidal ties.”

Aichi’s connection to the global war industry remains pertinent as the physical site of production for weapons technology for Japan and the worldwide weapons trade. Companies like FANUC, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and IHI, produce various weapons parts and machinery in Aichi Prefecture. Aichi is one of only three places worldwide that can complete the Lockheed Martin F-35 warplane, which has caused incalculable loss in Gaza, and is also home to tech development including driverless vehicles, AI, and drones. As Japan’s new government recklessly brings the world closer to war with China over Taiwan, continues to militarize the occupied Ryūkyū Islands (Okinawa) and Ainu territories (Hokkaido), and discards decades-long taboos around the use of nuclear weapons, this divestment by the Aichi government is a small but important step towards holding our governments accountable for seemingly endless spending on wars and militarization.

While much of the Palestine movement in Japan is centered in Tokyo, the #SMASHTHEMATCH campaign has shown that people throughout Japan are concerned with the ongoing genocide in Palestine and are willing to take action to refuse complicity. We encourage ALL communities throughout Japan to continue to pressure the government and private companies to immediately cut ALL ties with Isrl and to continue to fight for FULL Liberation for the Palestinian People, from the River to the Sea!

Organisers wish to extend their gratitude and congratulations to every single person across Japan and around the world who called, sent an email, protested on the street, held a sign, or commented on social media for the #SMASHTHEMATCH campaign! Punks, moms, artists, elders, students, teachers, workers, activists — every single action was a grain of sand that made this campaign a success.

これは日本の草の根BDS運動にとって大きな勝利です。アパルトヘイト国家イスラエルはドローン攻撃や爆撃でいわゆる「停戦」を継続的に破り、最新の大量虐殺兵器を世界中に売り続けています。日本政府が特にサイバーセキュリティや技術分野でイスラエルとの連携を進める中、この勝利は単なる地域問題ではなく、世界中で同様の計画と闘う他のコミュニティに勇気を与えるものだと認識しています。この勝利を実現するために尽力した全ての方々に、心からの感謝と敬意を表します。署名活動に参加し、メールを書き、コメントを残し、電話をかけて愛知県に「世界が注目している」ことを伝え、パレスチナへの正義を要求した一人ひとりへ、ありがとう&おめでとうございます！

Aichi-Israelマッチングプログラムは2022年以降、納税者の資金を用いてイスラエルのテック系スタートアップと日本企業を結びつけてきました。これらの提携により、ドローン、AI、サイバーセキュリティなどイスラエルによる虐殺で使われる軍事技術が、日本の製造業の中心地である愛知県に持ち込まれました。キャンペーンの過程で、愛知県は同プログラムと軍事技術開発の関連性を否定しましたが、活動家たちがその虚偽を暴いたのです。パレスチナの子ども達を想う名古屋のママの会と@palestine.in.japaneseによる入念な調査により、主催者らはイスラエルの「スタートアップ国家」文化が日本の軍産複合体と直接結びついていることが明らかになりました。この関係は著名なアルバネーゼ報告書にも明記されています。こうした繋がりを否定することは、技術そのものの起源と目的——パレスチナ人民に対する監視、支配、ジェノサイド、民族浄化——を覆い隠す行為です。

パレスチナの子ども達を想う名古屋のママの会、BDS Japan Bulletin、広島パレスチナともしび連帯共同体、パンクス・アゲインスト・アパルトヘイトが連携し、ロンドン、インドネシア、デトロイト、ハワイ、スペインなど国内外の草の根コミュニティと協力してきました。毎週オンラインアクションを開催し、参加者は愛知県のSNSアカウントに抗議コメントを投稿し、関連企業に抗議電話をかけ、愛知県に直接請願書を送付してマッチングプログラムに反対しました。パレスチナ人アーティストを特集した国際芸術祭「あいち2025」を軸とした集中キャンペーンはさらなる圧力を生み、国際的な美術ニュースの見出しを飾り、2025年9月にはトリエンナーレ組織委員会のメンバーであり、マッチングプログラム参加企業の1社の専務取締役が委員会を辞任しました。

名古屋では、愛知県庁や2026年開催予定のアジア競技大会開幕式会場で毎週抗議行動が実施されました。広島では活動家が原爆ドーム跡地でビラを配布し、イスラエルの大量虐殺兵器技術と核兵器の歴史的関連性を訴えながら市民に呼びかけました。ロンドンでは、パレスチナ支援の地元募金活動でパンクアーティストたちが「#SMASHTHEMATCH」と叫び、日本のイスラエルとの共謀終結を求めるメールを送付。国際団体「ディフェンス・フォー・チルドレン・インターナショナル・パレスチナ」「ワールド・ビヨンド・ウォー」「ユダヤ平和の声」「日本現代イスラム研究センター」を含む世界各国のバンドやグループが連名しました。

「一貫性、異文化間協力、多言語情報キャンペーン、そして純粋な『人々の力』を何よりも信じ、このプログラム中止に向け愛知県に最大限の圧力をかけることを目指した」と、パンクス・アゲインスト・アパルトヘイトの主催者は語ります。「『自分の声は意味がない』とよく言われるが、私たちは逆を証明した。実際の組織化は常に現地で行われますが、オンラインでささやかな形で参加した何千人もの個人が、この運動を生き続けさせ『時代の精神』に留めるための草の根運動を築き上げました。つまり、愛知県と同様に、共犯関係にある企業も、自社の虐殺的関与について懸念する市民や支援者からのコメントが殺到する中で、公的なPRを管理できなくなったのです」

愛知県は、日本および世界の武器取引のための武器技術の生産拠点として、世界的な戦争産業とのつながりを維持しています。ファナック、三菱重工業、IHI などの企業は、愛知県でさまざまな武器部品や機械を生産しています。愛知は、ガザで計り知れない損失をもたらしたロッキード・マーティン F-35戦闘機を完成させることができる世界でも3ヶ所しかない場所の 1つであり、無人運転車、AI、ドローンなどの技術開発の拠点でもあります。日本の新政権が、台湾をめぐって中国との戦争に無謀にも近づき、占領下の琉球諸島（沖縄）やアイヌの領土（北海道）の軍事化を進め、核兵器の使用に関する数十年にわたるタブーを破棄している中、愛知県によるこの投資撤退は、終わりの見えない戦争と軍事化への支出について、政府に説明責任を求めるための、小さいながらも重要な一歩です。

日本のパレスチナ運動の多くは東京に集中していますが、#SMASHTHEMATCHキャンペーンは、地方に住む人々でもパレスチナで進行中のジェノサイドを懸念し、共犯関係を拒否する行動を起こす意思があり、そしてそれが結果に繋がることを改めて示しました。私たちは日本全国のすべてのコミュニティに対し、政府と民間企業にイスラエルとのあらゆる関係を即刻断ち切るよう圧力をかけ続け、川から海までパレスチナ人の完全な解放のために闘い続けるよう呼びかけます！

ロンドンでは、パレスチナ支援の地元募金活動でパンクアーティストたちが「#SMASHTHEMATCH」と叫び、日本のイスラエルとの共謀終結を求めるメールを送付。国際団体「ディフェンス・フォー・チルドレン・インターナショナル・パレスチナ」「ワールド・ビヨンド・ウォー」「ユダヤ平和の声」「日本現代イスラム研究センター」を含む世界各国のバンドやグループが連名しました。 「一貫性、異文化間協力、多言語情報キャンペーン、そして純粋な『人々の力』を何よりも信じ、このプログラム中止に向け愛知県に最大限の圧力をかけることを目指した」と、パンクス・アゲインスト・アパルトヘイトの主催者は語ります。「『自分の声は意味がない』とよく言われるが、私たちは逆を証明した。実際の組織化は常に現地で行われますが、オンラインでささやかな形で参加した何千人もの個人が、この運動を生き続けさせ『時代の精神』に留めるための草の根運動を築き上げました。つまり、愛知県と同様に、共犯関係にある企業も、自社の虐殺的関与について懸念する市民や支援者からのコメントが殺到する中で、公的なPRを管理できなくなったのです」
愛知県は、日本および世界の武器取引のための武器技術の生産拠点として、世界的な戦争産業とのつながりを維持しています。ファナック、三菱重工業、IHI などの企業は、愛知県でさまざまな武器部品や機械を生産しています。愛知県は、ガザで計り知れない損失をもたらしたロッキード・マーティン F-35戦闘機を完成させることができる世界でも3ヶ所しかない場所の 1つであり、無人運転車、AI、ドローンなどの技術開発の拠点でもあります。日本の新政権が、台湾をめぐって中国との戦争に無謀にも近づき、占領下の琉球諸島（沖縄）やアイヌの領土（北海道）の軍事化を進め、核兵器の使用に関する数十年にわたるタブーを破棄している中、愛知県によるこの投資撤退は、終わりの見えない戦争と軍事化への支出について、政府に説明責任を求めるための、小さいながらも重要な一歩です。
日本のパレスチナ運動の多くは東京に集中していますが、#SMASHTHEMATCHキャンペーンは、地方に住む人々でもパレスチナで進行中のジェノサイドを懸念し、共犯関係を拒否する行動を起こす意思があり、そしてそれが結果に繋がることを改めて示しました。私たちは日本全国のすべてのコミュニティに対し、政府と民間企業にイスラエルとのあらゆる関係を即刻断ち切るよう圧力をかけ続け、川から海までパレスチナ人の完全な解放のために闘い続けるよう呼びかけます！
#SMASHTHEMATCHキャンペーンに向け、電話をかけ、メールを送り、街頭で抗議し、プラカードを掲げ、SNSでコメントした日本国内外の全ての方々に最大限の感謝と祝福を送ります！パンクス、ママ、アーティスト、高齢者、学生、教師、労働者、活動家——一つ一つの行動が砂粒となり、このキャンペーンを成功に導きました。日本のBDS運動の確固たる勝利として、またさらなる勝利の兆しとして、この結果を心から歓迎します。私たちは、このプログラムが完全に終了し、イスラエルとの協力に納税者の資金が使用されなくなったという完全な確認を得るまで、愛知県への圧力を継続することを誓約します。私たちの取り組みが「インティファーダのグローバル化」の重要性と、パレスチナ人への正義を求める国境を越えた草の根運動の可能性を示せたことを願っています。
